  • It makes sense for Microsoft to support Linux though…

They tried their hardest to kill Linux under Steve Ballmer but now they’re moving (or in reality have moved) to a model where Xbox and cloud are their main income-generating industries. The former is unrelated to Windows/Linux and the latter is frankly more dependant on Linux than it is on Windows - Microsoft have been supportive of Linux through Azure for years now and it doesn’t exactly make sense for them to be developing two different operating systems, so it’s not far fetched to imagine they’ll drop DOS NT as a backend for windows entirely in the future and move to a Linux backend, with Windows just being a closed source DM with tracking etc added on.

This covers embrace & extend, but I don’t think the extinguish part makes sense - sure they may add features the FOSS community disagree with, but at worst we’re in a similar position to where we are now with things being released separately for Linux and Windows

  • To some people pleasing god and liberating people from sinful leadership is something worth fighting for. And when you REALLY fight for something like that it’s a messy process and you’re going to to things that moderate liberals look down on as going too far.

That is the exact argument you are trying to make, and if you think that it is a deranged extremist view you should take a good look in the mirror - I can see autism shining through here due to your utter inability to see others points of view and draw equivalences.

  • I can’t help but feel soap making itself wouldn’t be as much use as why/when to use it?

Mixing oil with the ashy water (which is as simple as soap’s gonna get) is reasonably easy to do and so useful that even without a civilisation people would probably be doing it either through discovery or by keeping doing it?

I think things like “how to build a wooden bridge so it will hold a laden cart and not fall down” are more likely to be lost without civilisation while still being incredibly useful (although I can’t say I’d be very good for that)

I might add a section on refrigeration methods like zeers or wind towers/yakhchāls if the civilisation would be somewhere hot and dry, otherwise maybe something on using rivers for powering looms, mills etc.
