Yeah, I know. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, I just roll with it. But I do regret not taking up a lot of the opportunities that I didn’t realize were worthwhile opportunities. I have a tendency to screw myself over, it is what it is. :)

An older couple who wanted to retire offered to let me take over their cidery, back when I was doing a lot more homebrew… I declined because I knew nothing about ciders, I’d have needed to relocate, and I was in my last year of college.
Big mistake turning it down, even if I would have needed to relocate. I haven’t been properly stable since.
Bar down the street has free WiFi and food. So probably there. The library is all the way across town, so not a great option for me.
Or there’s another bar close enough to my house that I could probably make an antenna and leech off that. I did that with on base housing back in the day cuz I didn’t want to pay for internet.
And here I was using windows in a VM to run rstudio 😪
Times have changed for sure. (Tho I haven’t used rstudio for many years and it may still be unsupported)
Zomg I totally missed this message, I’m sorry, so I guess this is ME checking in on YOU a couple days later ;)
Sorry to hear the glowing didn’t work but thrilled to hear you had a good sleep anyway. That’s hard to come by sometimes :)
Aww that’s super nice of you :) even my friends struggle to…. Not dislike me :) I struggle with it myself but you made it a bit easier today, being very open to things.
It won’t be tonight but I do hope to run into you again. I… can’t reach out to you, it just isn’t a thing I can do at this point (always goes horribly) but if you do want to keep touch, please do feel free to dm me, or whatever that looks like on Lemmy/fediverse…?
Honestly it has not happened, and irl people who give me their contact info tend to do so with zero expectation of follow-up (I have learned through failed attempts to follow up), so idk how to do it or what it looks like… but I would like to keep contact if you’d be into it.
But if not o hope you have a great night all the same :) no pressure or whatever :) but do think of that mountain stream, maybe throw in glowing trees if you feel adventuresome! I have a whole dream town and it’s so fun to have a place to explore. Give yourself a glowing woods while you can ;)
Honestly it probably is just right. Whatever the number is it’s seems to be the right number.
Maybe musk would have done better with a coconut tho… just sayin.
I appreciate you friend. It’s been a solid while since I drank (which is better for everyone, I’m a fucking mess!) and so I’m kinda very aware of myself. I’m trying to be a better person and I fail every time. So if I limit my exposure surface area I can’t be so abrasive right…? Or something? (Frankly idk what’s wrong with me, but I’m clearly unlikeable so I try to limit my… exposure surface area I guess? Hence deleting my post. But telling you about it because i want to social…
I hope you have a wonderful night, and sleep wonderfully. I always like to encourage my friends to have soecific thoughts, so if you read this before you go to bed, I hope you fall asleep thinking about a random mountaintop stream leading into a lakebed. I hope you see trees around you, filled with fireflies. You see the lake lapping at your feet with the wind, and bioluminescent glow around your toes.
Have a great night friend and wonderful dreams :)
That’s a thing, and frankly if we discount coconuts a lot more of the internet is virgin than we care to engage with……?
If that’s what it takes for greatness, we need more coconut fuckers. I guess….?
Or whatever.
Look don’t quote me on this but smart people are weird as fuck, and a lot of them are super not into normie life…
I really liked you long winded post… genuinely.
And I wrote out a really long reply but… I deleted it. Because it was probably too much trauma to throw at someone I don’t know :) and I really enjoyed what you wrote to me, but I know that I’m “much”, sometimes “a bit much”, sometimes “too much”… either way I don’t want to lead on that because it never works out for me so.
I really enjoy you friend and I want you to know I read everything you wrote I just don’t have the gonads to actually engage with this the way I want to.
Instead, here’s something that helped me be who I am today (jokingly, old humor you may recognize)
They say “was a virgin” for a lot of gay men.
Bet his dick was in lots of things, just not a biblical wife.
Surprisingly unhelpful, thanks! :)
That’s why I don’t swap for fedora. That’s the kind of help you tend to get unless you know someone who knows the distro, so I guess thanks for exemplifying :)
You are the first rando to ever call me friend like my friend does and I’m super here for it. Thank you for that, I really liked it. :)
I’m super behind you, friend. I will continue to call them oligarchs, I will continue to make wealth an embarrassment. I mean I’m poor and always have been so of course I’ll rail against the overlords… but 40% of the US population is poor, we are nearing a majority and that is super fucked, and that’s a huge potential voting bloc! We should really do shit with that!
Gosh, it must suck to have so much money and not do anything good for society with it. How embarrassing for you to have so much and do so little with it.
I mean look, if we just taxed shit appropriately we’d probably be mostly ok. There’s a reason tax cuts are so influential. And there’s a reason anyone over a certain income bracket should have $0 worth of loopholes. I’m down with tax loopholes but if you have more than $x in any bank account you are disqualified from claiming. Why not, right? Who does it harm? Nobody who matters.
I haven’t tried those, but I did hop a bit on a bad hard drive. mint was too much (also o just hate it, tbh). Antixlinux was too much and that’s meant to run off a flash drive so the drive was failing, and now it isn’t (new 15 year old drive!!!) and Ubuntu is still a bit too much. But it runs a web browser which is all I need for a bedroom media device. I’d like more, but it’s enough.
But since then I’m seeking a different end goal. I was looking to optimize that old pos, but now if it just runs a browser and runs Plex web, I’m happy because it’s so old I can’t expect it to download for me… it can do, but not well and I have other machines for that. I tried to use it as a download device but lol, nope, can’t handle that many p2p connections on 4g ram.
But I’ll try those on flash drives and see what they can do for me! Thanks for the recommend!
I’ll use it if you do.
Pinky swear?
I’m probably going to get downvoted for this but I’m a Linux noob overall…. Windows has historically been what I’ve used. Or Ubuntu. I did distrohop to antixLinux and other really super small distros, but they didn’t fix my problems and I ended up back on relatively bloaty Ubuntu for further testing and sadly it solved bout a third of my problems (the hardware is ancient enterprise shit with a whopping 4gb ram and 16 usb ports)
I’ve been looking for a Debian based system to replace Ubuntu because I’m a noob and Debian-based is super different from the fedora.
I’m sure fedora is great! Tons of people love it! But for a noob is can be really daunting. Especially when most Linux instructions come in three flavors “Ubuntu/debian” and 2 other things. Who knows which two. You, the advanced Linux user, probably know which two but your noob doesn’t. And doesn’t understand the difference.
I’m not a total noob but I prefer Debian because I know a person who gets Debian and can help me. If I knew a fedora user that was actually willing to help me, I’d use that, but I’ve never met one so I’ll stick with what I know.
Make a scramble! It takes lots of ingredients, plus egg, but the egg is kinda on the side and largely irrelevant.
It’s all the ingredients that make the scramble worth it. Like life. It wouldn’t be great if everyone were… wait… no…
Lots of flavors make the dish good. Yep that works.
Personally, I prefer things I don’t understand because I don’t have to mentally deal with whatever bullshit they are saying. I can sing it a thousand times without ever thinking too much about it because I know the sounds and not the meaning of the words.
I can belt out a ton of Japanese or Russian music, because I started listening to help my language learning (classes, not self-guided), but I don’t actually understand the songs. I “know the words”, but that’s it.
Sweet, glad that worked.
Welcome to the better side of Lemmy. 🫡
I got a full set of silverware for backpacking that collapses down to about the size of those folding reader glasses (plus a little hard storage case just like the glasses). It’s a spoon, fork, knife, and chopsticks. I think I paid $6 for the set. Not super high quality, since the focus was on weight and utility, but definitely does the job.
I don’t use it much anymore, but it was great for lunch at work, and is good when traveling (staying at hotels and getting takeout - no plastic trash!). I mostly keep it in my overnight backpack so it’s available whenever I’m not home and I can’t forget it.
