Hardest thing for me has been finding actual remote work. Look on any job board these days and everyone’s claiming “remote*” when they’re nothing of the sort.
StarLink has been a game changer for me. Expensive as frick but so worth not having to find cell towers or monitor data caps anymore.
You do you homie. Nobody’s forcing anyone to switch.
I don’t have as many hours in SolidWorks but for me, trying to navigate without a 3d mouse feels like riding a bike with square tires. I could manage to do it but why. At the end of the day though it’s a preference. Likewise I have to murder the x and y axis on it for things to click in my head, which is another preference. I suppose growing up as a gamer may have something to do with that. I don’t want to move/rotate the object, I want to move/rotate the camera…
Awesome!!
Does it support 3D mice?
Google. It’s been a long process but I’ve been degoogling little by little for a multitude of reasons.
I wish I had some good ones but I’ll be watching this thread.
What I can say is that anyone on youtube that’s got a channel dedicated to a particular hustle is no longer making their money doing that hustle. They are an influencer now.
I’m just giving the OP a suggestion to look into to see if it’s something they might be interested in. You sound like a teenager fanboying for the console of their choice and shitting on anything else. Go back to reddit with that shit.
VR is expensive
It doesn’t have to be, which is why I’m saying start with a Quest. A Quest 3S is cheaper than other consoles out there. We also don’t know OP’s financial situation. This is not a child we’re talking about.
cumbersome
I’ll give you that in regards to a front-heavy Quest. Other headsets are much better in terms of comfort. But myself and others would spend hours a day in a Quest 2 when it came out and we survived.
Needs extra space
The vast majority of games can be played sitting down. And most standing games have you standing in place. I live in an RV and manage fine.
has very few games
That’s simply not true anymore. And we don’t know what kind of games OP would like.
Again, I’m not saying VR is the only solution for OP. I’m simply making a suggestion that nobody else had mentioned yet. Maybe it’s for them, maybe it’s not. That’s for OP to decide.
I don’t blame you. Personally I use a Pico 4 and don’t touch Quest. I’ve got two PCVR gaming rigs, full body tracking with lighthouses etc etc. But we’re not taking about me, or you, or an experienced gamer. We’re talking about a 30-something whose never touched a controller.
For someone that’s new and wants to see what VR is about a Quest is undeniably the easiest way to try things. Then they can decide to upgrade from there if they so choose.
Your personal experience isn’t everyone’s experience. VRChat alone is worth spending some time in (assuming you escape the kids). I know some people that Only play Walkabout Mini Golf, and there’s nothing wrong with that. For someone completely new to gaming I think it’s a good start. Wish there’s been a shitload of new VR games this year.
Get a Quest 3! If you’re brand new to gaming I think VR is more intuitive than picking up a traditional controller for the first time.
I primarily use Lemmy. It’s the only place to really find intelligent conversation. I hop over to reddit on occasion for topics that just aren’t here yet. But almost every comment thread is either full of bots or those with little reading comprehension.
I feel like Threads was dead on arrival. I never hear about it anymore since it’s launch. Never tried it though so I can’t really say first hand how active it is.
That’s great and all but we’re going to be needing food and air conditioning.
You already have! Congratulations! That last one, was the last one. Throw away the rest, you’re done.
The devs description states that it’s intentionally minimalistic visually and focuses on advanced features. FairEmail is way overkill for someone with a single gmail account for example. At the time that I found it, FairEmail was the only client that met all of my needs. Like managing multiple accounts, each with multiple folders and none of that unified nonsense. It’s also available on F-Droid and GitHub.
After waiting years for this I ended up using FairEmail, which is absolutely amazing. I’d have a hard time switching to something else at this point.
I’m not opposed to that, but if they expect me to be at a physical location at any point, I’m SOL.
