In a work environment, best response is to ask things like “why?” “What do you mean?” Etc and let them either dig a hole that you can bring to HR; or come to the realization that their derogatory mindset actually feels really dirty when they spell it out, and drop it on their own.
Gotcha - shouldn’t be an issue with digging to get to the good stuff. That’s more of a small parrot thing with like parakeets and cockatiels.
If he’s eating some I’d just keep an eye on him. Fresh stuff you don’t want to sit for very long, but seeds and pellets can stay in a dish practically indefinitely until they’re eaten.
If he’s not eating at all, or less than normal, vet ASAP. Parrots are REALLY good at hiding symptoms, so any sickness that’s bad enough to make a noticeable change in their behavior means it’s already gotten pretty bad.
For food, just make sure he’s got a good mix - fruits, veggies, nuts, pellets… I’ve never had a macaw, so I’d look up any diet weirdness for them specifically, but in general, variety is good.
Has he eaten any of it? Some parrots will skim the surface, eating all the ‘good stuff’ they can see, but they can be dumb sometimes and don’t realize there’s more food underneath the layer of now-empty shells.
What kind of parrot is it?
Tried it. Felt like a way-early development version of Quizlet… So I just use Quizlet when I want flashcards.
That’s what I’m getting at - it would. Maybe not officially, but the infighting would be intense.
Veteran here. Speculation - take it for what’s it’s worth (not shit). There’s a weird notion that the military is always just going to default to red, and while the total count definitely does lean red (cuz, y’know… most of us are fuckin dumbasses who vote against out own interests…) there IS a split… maybe… idk, 60-40? Point is there’s a lot more blue in the military than we’re typically painted as.
So, civil war. First off, not gonna happen cuz we don’t have the spine for it. We’ll just continue to bitch at eachother from the comfort of our couches; and while that bitching will probably get louder and we’ll probably see some increase in domestic terrorism, it will not get to the point of actual war. But if we did… the military isn’t going to just pick a side; it’ll turn into the world’s largest shitshow of infighting. Then once we’ve sufficiently hamstrung ourselves, we’re going to get our asses handed to us by the enemies across the globe we’ve been collecting like fucking pokemon via our shitty foreign policy.
Tldr, the sides of our civil war are basically two yipping lapdogs that will bark louder and louder at eachother until we eventually prompt our pissed off neighbor to come over with a shotgun. The actual war that happens will kill both dogs well before we get to the point of a civil war.
Using separate tags for “LEWD” vs “GORE” Has been a request on Reddit since practically day 1.
The fediverse is an evolution from things like Reddit, so I’m a bit surprised this wasn’t a day-1 feature here and that we’re still having the exact same conversation.
Community-provided custom tags would be a nice feature too. There’s some artsy content that toes the line, but even if it’s like some really cool body paint, or a tattoo or something, I still don’t want surprise tits on my screen in the middle of the break room. That would be a nice way to one-click block the 700 or so furry porn communities on Lemmy.
…or block the 700 or so sports communities if you’re not interested in sports; this isn’t necessarily just a blood vs boobs problem as it is a content (of any kind) filtering problem.
It’s not so much a horse issue as it is an allergy issue, and those are specific to the person. You can have a severe reaction to pretty much anything, and you don’t know ahead of time unless you’ve been allergy tested for some reason - you’ll just have a random exposure like mine to horses, and find out the hard way.
I’m guessing the person with the epi pen had an allergy to something else and was carrying for that; saw me and decided to intervene with their own meds.
Rode a horse.
Woke up in a hospital.
Discovered I’m like insanely allergic to horses; airway was completely fucked.
Someone hit me with an epi-pen after recognizing the signs - good chance I’d be dead otherwise. Unsure if it was a staff member or just a random person who happened to be carrying an epi-pen; I was pretty little when it happened, and only vaguely recall getting up on the horse and nothing after, but I’m told I just randomly went all dead-weight and flopped off and face planted in the dirt.
Thanks, random stranger with epi!
Agreed. If the screw moves left or right, it fell out of its hole, lol. I guess “clockwise” is hard to rhyme.
I’m not interested in what the dictionary says or a textbook definition I’m interested in your personal distinction between the two ideas. How do you decide to put an idea in one category versus the other? I’m not interested in the abstract concepts like ‘objective truth’ I want to know how it works in real life for you.
Huh. I guess I don’t categorize concepts like that… is it normal to? I believe what I think is true. The certainty of that belief depends on either my own knowledge of supporting facts; or the credibility of someone else’s knowledge in a field I’m not familiar with. If new knowledge reveals a belief to be incorrect, I recognize that at some point I succumbed to bullshit, and need to adjust my belief accordingly.
You know this already, but the variety of jobs you can do with that RN is insane. If you don’t like the type of nursing your doing, switch to a different one. Look to admin, informatics, etc if you’re wanting more of an office job vs patient care.
Consider the direction the medical field is going, too: boomers are finally starting to retire, and as they phase deeper into the geriatric stage of life, they’re going to need more and more care. This means the supply end of nursing is going to turn down a notch, and the demand end is going to absolutely explode. If you’re sitting on a ton of experience, you’ve got some fucking PRIME wage negotiation potential - I’d flex that before bailing.
I grew up in a rightwing household, and unquestioningly drank the koolaid until my late teens. The right’s bullshit eventually became impossible to ignore, so I dove right into the ‘both sides!’ trap and rode the Libertarian train for a while.
It became really easy to articulate what I didn’t like about the right; describing what was bad about the left was just echoes of Fox bitching about things like them voting on emotion instead of logic… but no real examples.
Around my mid-twenties I finally realized ^that was projection; then 2016 happened and holy shit they’re running Trump and Hillary?? Easily the two most hated candidates in my lifetime… against Gary Johnson - an admittedly goofy personality but likeable and most importantly not crazy, THIS IS THE LP’S TIME TO SHINE! …yeah they got 3% of the vote. We won’t ever see better conditions for a 3rd victory, so, pipedream shattered.
Guess I’ll have to just pick a lesser evil, so let’s see what we have to work with…
there’s the red team. Burn through our fossil resources with reckless abandon. War, war, war, and more war. Shave social services down to nothing so we can claim ‘fiscal responsibility’ which is good I guess (hey! eyes down here, we’re done talking about the war part), a blatant integration of religion and politics, and they want to make life as miserable as possible for my gay/colored/female/nonchristian friends. Fuck, that’s pretty bad…
Alright, next we have the blue team, which is the opposite of all those things, at the exceedingly high cost of… getting cockblocked by the red team when they try to implement those things… and… well there was that time Bill lied about getting a blowjob- outrageous! Surely the red team does a better job of keeping it in their pants… *checks* …uhh, nope! Fuck, I’m starting to become aware of my own cognitive dissonance and it feels like absolute shit.
So I start voting one issue at a time, crunching both options against eachother and choosing the one that’s best for the US. That way there’s no bias and I won’t be part of this tribal bullshit plagueing our politics… Weird, when I ignore affiliation and vote on policy alone, my ballot becomes solid blue. What are the odds of that?! Next election, solid blue again. And again.
My desire to be ‘independent’ on label alone is pretty much gone at this point, and I’m being more and more vocal about supporting leftwing policies. Family isn’t a fan, but they hit me with the shit OP is poking fun at - I only shifted blue because I’m poor! Once I make more money, just you wait and see, I’ll come crawling right back.
Now, I’m not rich or anything, but I’m (finally!) not living paycheck to paycheck. During all ^that I wandered into the military which gave me access to all kinds of socialized resources which have enabled me to get where I’m at now and have made a pretty significant improvement on my life. The thing that pisses me off about those socialized services is WHY THE FUCK DOESN’T EVERYONE HAVE THIS?! So wearing camo for 4 years for some reason got me this VIP tour of what we should should be doing for everyone.
I was a late bloomer, I got there. I haven’t missed a single election since 2016, big or small. Solid blue. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ll even look up the voter registration of candidates for nonpolitical positions like judges, and red is a deal breaker.
The better off I become, the more blue I get. The notion of red-shift with income is trash.
Aight, for chill concentration EDM-ish background music…
Satisfactory’s Pygmalion Effect
What kind of music do you listen to at work? Like high energy vs chill focus music?
Yeah your biggest obstacle right now is going to be “our next available appointment is in 4 months”, so ER is the way passed that. It’s not super ethical, but neither is the way our healthcare system operates, so do what you gotta do.
If you’re on any expensive meds, now’d be a good time to get them refilled. …and ‘my backpack got stolen!’ them and get them refilled again if that’s covered.
If you’ve got anything you think needs to be addressed with any urgency at all, skip the normal process and go to the ER to complain about your symptoms, especially if you’ve got ANY pain in your abdomen or tenderness in your lower back (which could mean kidney stones).
Infact, even if you don’t have pain, go in and tell them you feel nauseous after eating anything greasy or fatty, and you’ll get a free ultrasound of your gallbladder to see if there’s any stones in there. …don’t actually accept surgery to remove it unless there are stones that look like they’re for sure going to be problematic, cuz you WILL have symptoms once it’s gone (eating will make you feel like shit… your body should adjust eventually, but that’s not a guarantee, and it can take anywhere from a few months to years).
So, if they offer a scan or any diagnostic, do it. If they offer surgery, have a long think about whether it’s actually worth doing.
If you happen to have easy access to the ROM, how’s “Star Wars: Racer Revenge” run?
It’s the less popular but more fleshed out spiritual successor to the N64 pod racing game - the PS2’s take nailed the physics - the two engines and racer pod are (or at least feel like) three separate entities, and playing in first person view with the engines controlled separately by the left and right joysticks feels fucking magical.
Tried to run it on PCSX2 years ago, but it was one of the few games that meshed so poorly with the emulator that it wasn’t playable. I’m guessing the emulator has seen some improvements since then - could definitely use a nice shot of nostalgia.
Engineering points for opposing teeth orientation - forward grip on the back wheel for accelerating, backwards on the front wheel for breaking. I like it.
