Forgejo. ♥
Github uses its own proprietary platform which it resells, Github Enterprise.
Gitlab uses a FOSS alternative engine, but IMO it’s super heavy for 90% of use cases.
Forgejo checks all the right boxes. Lightweight. FOSS. Still not convinced? Check out Gitea.
You’re looking for QubesOS.
Qubes OS is a free and open-source, security-oriented operating system for single-user desktop computing. Qubes OS leverages Xen-based virtualization to allow for the creation and management of isolated compartments called qubes.
Everything runs in its own sandbox called a “qube.” Read more.

$89. The alternatives are $180+, so this is about as good as you’re going to get unless you go second hand, and most of the time second hand is more expensive than new because people want to recoup the costs as much as possible without actually thinking about what a fair price is.
Do you have it installed via flatpack/snap? IIRC flatpack/snap doesn’t support AMD Hip.
Grab the tarball from here and give that a shot.
Not every kid will be able to do this.
She’s just a regular kid. She has trouble with multiplication tables and likes to play outside. She also has difficulty reading. It’s not like she did it totally unassisted. But she did everything. I’m also not implying that “every kid should be able to do this!” like you seem to be implying.
I’m challenging the notion that IT’S SO DIFFICULT to do, especially when I’ve seen a young kid do it myself.
IMO learning the basics of computing, go for as early as possible. Especially with this new generation of kids.
2 months ago she didn’t even know how to use a mouse properly, and now she’s a whiz. The funniest is when you try to show her something on the screen and she tries to click it like it’s a touch-screen and I have to be like “no, use the mouse!”
It’s a struggle to get started, but once they have that foundational knowledge they pick things up so quickly.
Windows ate my bootloader when upgrading from Vista to 7
Windows will eat the bootloader every time it updates the boot partition. Which generally isn’t a whole lot of the time, but it’s always a surprise, that’s for sure.
Now this I can agree with.
Has this kid installed Linux before? Or at least some tech background?
No. I sat behind her and encouraged her to read the prompts in their entirety. She asked questions (like the difference between sys/data partitions, etc), that’s basically it. I maintain that if a child can do it, anyone can. People don’t read as well as they should.
Even without it, you know kids learn really well, right? Can you say the same about a 40 year old?
This is the worst excuse in the history of excuses… Quite literally pathetic.
I watched a 9 year old install a fully working version of Arch with no GUI…
I think you’re just making it harder than it has to be… lol
EDIT: Or maybe she’s 10? Not sure. But either 9 or 10.
So be it. I’ve been using btrfs for a long time now without any real issues. No idea why everyone’s dick gets so hard whenever you mention it.
I mean, yes. You can’t exactly snapshot a system and return it to operational order “under any circumstances” without compromise…
Use btrfs snapshots. Bring the PC to a state that you like, make a snapshot. Then on shutdown set the profile to reload to the specific snapshot.
Any issues? Just restart. Might take a minute, but it ensures the exact same environment every time.
It’s allocated memory in the cache. It’s not used, it’s earmarked for first usage.
This is standard memory management.
spicy tape
That’s fucking hilarious.
You can, but it’s a bit difficult.
My suggestion would be to use a LiveCD. Test it out and see if like whichever distro you choose. It completely replicates the feeling of *nix being on your hardware without any commitment.
It’s not a personal insult. I’m objectively pointing out that your emotional intelligence is low, considering you’re seemingly incapable of understanding that some people mind slurs, and services have every right to police their own platforms…
For example, today I got a popup notification from Microsoft suggesting that I should install an xbox app.
Ahh! If that’s the case you’ve come to the right place! I’ve been begrudgingly using Windows for 2 decades and I’ve found two utilities that help you disable 99% of that nagware.
Using these 2 applications you can basically gut Windows down to nothing. You can also use Windows Update Blocker to completely disable Windows Update, so features aren’t added or re-enabled without you knowing about it. Make sure you enable “protect services settings!” This breaks winget
, but I just pull the wub.exe up, enable updates, use winget
, then re-disable updates. Only takes a second.
Doing this will completely change your Windows experience.
If you want to get even more crazy, you can do Windows 10/11 IoT which is a version of Windows designed for embedded devices (which still has windows enterprise level features, including telemetry disabled by default) which comes without a significant portion of the bullshit you get with consumer versions of Windows. Typically, you can selectively enable or install things it doesn’t have if you end up needing them, but I’ve never run into any issues.
If you wanna give it a try you can download Windows 11 (26100.1742) IoT here, or Windows 10 (22H2) IoT here.
Yes.
