Why would anyone want to run unmainlined security patches from a company?
This is how CrowdStrike happened.
This feels like security via business decision which is always the opposite of security. At least this would be open source now? 🤷♂️

The brutal cognitive dissonance you manage to encapsulated in this comment is impressive.

You are … making my point.
I worry sometimes that the reddit exodus brought mostly bellyachers.
The sheer boringness of these repeated questions about the size, growth, health of the fediverse.
Fuck metrics. Jesus, do you mot get it at all?
You forget one thing: the bulk of his supporters are old as fuck. They don’t have a lot of elections left in them. I would be far less pessimistic about '28. (Not that I think it’s a lock for the left, just that if Trump loses this time he has really fucked up the GOP and it may take a decade or two to get back to the power levels they have now.)

Edit for clarity: I believe this is a cursed object in general, not just mine.
Can you explain more why you think Ford’s 40hr week is bad?
I thought it represented a pretty marked improvement compared to typical job requirements at the time?
Ford is no hero. A documented anti-semite with lots of other bad takes, but I am not clear on why you would pick his working hours as the thing to highlight.
Yep, and to the person justifying the IT department’s invasion of privacy: they’ve been lying to us for years, there are breaches ALL THE TIME. Workers will give up every right in the face of corporate excuses? 🤷♂️
No, no, you see: the OC got 'em and now we know they’re not a true xxxxxxxxx and therefore their opinion doesn’t matter, in fact, their life may even be forfeit.
Well regulated capitalism has produced more human advancement than any other economic system we have tried.
You’re not alone. There are dozens of us who believe in humanity and progress and realize that some amount of motivation (within reason) helps humans to achieve beneficial things.
Here on the fediverse we may be getting targeted by outside actors who want nothing more than to foment violence in western democracies.
True leftists reject violence in all forms. It is coercion. It is evil. End of story.
The only time violence is justified 8a in self defense or the defense of others. Political change must be achieved through peaceful means if you want the result to have any chance of enduring.
Anyone on here advocating for violence deaerves to be labeled for what they are: part of the problem with the world today.

You are a fintech dev using floating point? And your advice is to encode things as strings?
…
This is why I got out of fintech.
(I am sorry, I know there are horrors and I am sure I am not familiar with your exact scenario.)
Edit: just for anyone who passes by: try to stick with integers in a currency’s smallest unit of division. (This is only one small bit of this problem, but the number of times I have seen currency values in floating point makea me psychotic.)
Maybe true, I don’t pay much attention. All I know is most studies and censuses I have seen show religious affiliation falling fairly rapidly.
🤷♂️
What would you think of someone who goes door to door trying to convince you a blubbery clown rules the universe from planet zebulon?
Is that a normal person just doing normal person things?
For the non-religious, there is no difference between the person above and a relgious believer.
I think it’s reasonable to ask why people still hold unfounded beliefs with the greater interconnectedness of the world making it pretty plain that not all these religions can be divinely inspired truth, so many of them are necessarily imaginary.
Nah, I like my community without the side of eternal suffering that so many religions like to threaten you with for varioua reasons.
I’d put my money on huge adoption of D&D in the utopian future before I put it on religion.
I am having a hard time following what this does or why this is desirable. You’re saying there’s a patch this thing provides that … disables memory access … unless a flag is set in an executable … which will then bypass the security?
