  • Even the surface book 3 with it’s two batteries only got 7 hours for me with use.

It’s all about the TDP of the chip, pixel density and refresh rate of the screen and battery capacity.

Recipe for long battery life is low power CPU, lower resolution (HD vs UHD) screen, no touch input, bigger battery.

Tablets don’t usually follow that recipe.

  • It mentions limited functionality if you don’t pass it an account so likely as not it’s passing your user token along with a web browser header, scraping reddit, then yanking out whatever it’s filtering and then serving what’s left (likely just the text and vote metadata) in a locally hosted or remote hosted (not on reddit servers) site.

So it wears a mask that has your usernames face on it, knocks on reddit’s door, asks reddit your question, then comes back to you with only the relevant info that you have told it to bring back.

That’s only if my cursory reading is correct. I’d defer to a dev or someone else more interested in the project.

  • What do you want it to be? Read up on moderation and how that’s handled, host your own instance, contribute to the fediverse. Self hosted social media comes with it’s own challenges however you can get as much out of this as you put in.

I would point you two places as far as research on self hosting, db0 and eviltoast.org.

Db0 has a great AI moderation tool, eviltoast was recently plagued by a troll bot that kept creating new accounts and spamming threads with some pretty annoying posts.
