mint cinnamon because on my system it has no major issues and everything is easy to configure. i don’t have a lot of spare time so i can’t spend hours or even days troubleshooting why something won’t install or run. most other distros have been annoyingly buggy or too difficult to set up.

i suspected a corrupted usb too, but i used a different usb stick every time and with fedora i redownloaded the iso file when i reinstalled,

i am quite familiar with kde since i used nobara kde for a good while as my first daily driver linux os, but the experience has always been a bit broken. i can make the taskbar f-ck itself up by looking at it wrong and a reboot usually fixes it.

some really weird stuff started happening today in kubuntu too, like whatsapp web consumes 10 - 20% of cpu nonstop on every browser. and every time the internet connection cuts off (when suspending or reconnecting vpn), a popup says kded5 wants to add a new wallet… and i swear, this wasn’t my doing 😅

rpm fusion guide was a tad confusing for me and my rtx 30 series wasn’t listed so i didn’t know what to install. i did find a good guide after some trial and error and a full reinstall.

i have used nobara in the past, and i quite liked it and would have kept it but it had (and still has) this weird issue when i suspend my pc and/or turn off the monitor (oled tv), it won’t get signal anymore until i reboot.

anyway for now i ended up going back to mint for the 6th time and everything works so maybe i just stick with it 😂

gave fedora a shot today (with kde) because i see it recommended a lot. i found it difficult to get a working guide for nvidia drivers, had to reinstall the first time because all i got was a black screen. had lots of difficulty mounting secondary hard drive, programs refusing to install and not launching or nowhere to be found after installing, and everything works ridiculously slow even though i have powerful hardware. after almost smashing my head through the monitor i gave up and installed kubuntu, which also seems to have little hickups like stuttering and lagging when downloading something. is it supposed to be this hard? mint is still the only properly working distro i have seen.

right clicking on anything takes closer to a second on our school machines… on 10th gen i7…

correct me if I’m wrong, but the performance issues in the new AMD chips were microsofts fault and they work fine on linux.

finally some new visuals. mint cinnamon is always advertised as beautiful looking, but it’s absolutely not. i love cinnamon, but the default themes look depressing.

both support linux perfectly. apparently old CPUs get cheaper in most countries, not here though. ryzen 7 prices even went up since 9 came out.

why would one get an old intel instead of amd?

i always found gnome somehow irritating to use, like the tray area popping up all of the system controls when i just want to change the sound device. or little stuff like trying to paste a file into a folder that is too full to scroll past the bottom. i can’t r-click to the background, can’t adjust the columns to get empty space on the side. i need to use the menu. or pause fiddling with my noodle and ctrl+v…

does gnome not have audio output switcher in the tray audio popup menu thingy?

proton: in steam settings go to compatibility and check steam play. wine: download the installer, then depending on your desktop environment either double click it and install as you would on windows, or right click the background in the folder the example.exe is at, open terminal here, type: wine example.exe and follow the installer.

i never even liked w10 and then i got to experience w11 on our school machines, and realized i can’t go that way. saw so many people praising linux here so i split my ssd and tried to install linux on the other partition. fukked up and formatted the whole damn ssd, so i became a linux only user. soon i accidentally removed nvidia drivers so i went back to windows. not a month later i noticed my school logo on the start menu and they also seemed to control some windows settings, i freaked out and went back to linux. been like 1½ years now.

i use an lg oled tv as monitor too and was planning to get an amd gpu. i looked at these adapters, only a couple different ones available where i live but they had horrible reviews. what brand is yours?

if you need hdmi 2.1, nvidia. if not, amd.

i have the main edition, didn’t know they are different to upgrade. thought i have missed something, but now i see on their website it shows there is no upgrade path yet.

did you have to do a fresh install? the updater on mine is not offering 22 :(
