To be honest, I’m Irish and it seems to me colonialism influences a country to cling to their cultural practices more fiercely. Couple that with massive inter-generational trauma. In the case of Ireland, unfortunately that meant we had a brutal theocracy for decades after the British left.
I think the only reason Ireland is in any way more progressive now is because they let us join the European Union, and they gave us money!
Anyway I think you sound like a great person and the best of luck. I emigrated myself too, to England ironically…
Self hosted ‘The Lounge’ is great.
Matrix is good but it feels more like a WhatsApp group or something. Definitely room there to have a client that’s more fun, like Discord
Only tried issri on CLI Linux… Hexchat on windows I couldn’t eve get to connect lol. What are people using to keep IRC open, so you can look back on chats? Pretty new to it
I think Peertube does that! It’s usually pretty smooth…
Fair. And I’m now addicted to installing things in CLI anyway, ‘cause Windows store is a buggy nightmare
Nice, yeah AV Linux comes with a lot of pre-installed stuff so hoping it’s as easy as it seems :) I do like to tinker but not when I’m supposed to be doing other work haha
I think it won’t be abandoned, but we have to find better ways of filtering out AI slop. There are already quite a few search engines with curated networks of personal sites.
Another option is we switch to a different protocol. But internet style networks are too useful for human communication to abandon, I think.
