Thank you very much for explaining that. This has really been pretty far over my head but it’s so exciting.

Uhhhh isn’t this pretty massive news? Or am I missing something?
Thank you I think this might be the best way to go.
There are reasons to dislike a language, but there are no reasons to hate a language, certainly not one that is as ubiquitous as PHP. There’s no argument you could make for why someone hates a programming language.
Gotta block you. This is nothing I want any part of.
This entire thread is a tribal post that I had a problem with!! You don’t seem to understand this but I don’t care.

Ok I can add another group to my list then: bad php developers
The title of this post is calling php a “meme” did you read that part? Then it just uses some stupid ternary example no one does and that other languages exhibit so what is the point other than purely hating on php?
no clue what your point is.
PHP gets a totally disproportionate share of hate and that is the problem. Children like to dunk on PHP and a group mentality pushes it even more.
Hating on php is one of the reasons i left reddit. This is just people who don’t use php hating php for some reason. You can do dumb examples like this for any language. Low effort and funny for children.
Thank you so much! I’m going to try those first two today. Appreciate it!
The analogies in this were really good and honestly really accurately describe threads enough for me. What a strange place that is, the captions on the screenshots killed me.
I completely agree with you, I lost my original yahoo account right around that time and i think about it pretty regularly, i just want to see what was in there one more time.
I can’t believe the progress they’re all making
I just meant average cost per employee. That includes their salary but also health insurance, benefits, and payroll taxes. Definitely not everyone is getting 100k salary, but I think that’s a pretty conservative estimate for total employee cost at a tech company of their size.
2k employees at 100k/year for everything would be 200M/year just in compensation. That, plus hosting and all the server costs could put them close to this ad revenue if not slightly over. However, this ad revenue isn’t including things like reddit gold and gifts, I’m curious to see how that factors in.
Really wonderful comment and very thought provoking. I think more people, myself included, should be thinking about what the transition away from capitalism looks like and not just banging on the drum that capitalism is all that is wrong. We need to be thinking about what steps 1 and 2 look like, not the last step which is way too difficult for anyone to properly see how to get there.
