I spent a little bit of time looking for true alternatives to a MacBook that would fit my needs, but there really aren’t any. Once you check out laptops with 16+ hour of battery life, then add a bright, HDR, color-accurate display, then add the performance of the M-series chips (which are not THE best, but certainly close to the best options from AMD and Intel), and decent speakers, there really isn’t anything to compete.

A base 14" M3 Pro is around $1750, which isn’t that far out of line for high-performing laptops in general. If someone needs something cheaper, they can get a used 14" M1 Pro for around $900-$1k. Also, if you’re someone that already owns an iPhone, it’s kind of hard to even see why you would go with something else unless you are required to use Windows applications or want to play a bunch of AAA games.

I’m beginning to think that people that diss MacBooks are just people that never owned them.

For people that are really struggling financially, but still want the above features, the 2020 13" M1 Air w/16GB RAM and 256GB storage can be found for about $500.

I agree the hardware upgrades are obscenely expensive, but the base model pro’s are hard to beat for the price, depending on what you are looking for.

Seriously. Do people avoid buying Macbooks just because there’s a logo on the back? They make good hardware.

The way I see it, Musk is only going to provide the investment if it fits into his investment portfolio strategy. With $2 billion, I would give $1 billion to charities, and the other $1 billion I would use to purchase as many American Southeastern coast beach houses as possible. I would sell the beach houses to climate denialists at half-off, instantly losing $500 million in the process. I’d keep the $500 million from the house sales to myself, because Musk knows that some money has to be kept to keep the lights on. The purchasers of the houses would slowly watch as their new investments into their houses literally goes into the ground (er, or oceans, as it is in this case).

I figure Musk can’t resist an offer this good. My genius then continues to go unchallenged, except for Musk, who can somehow tank investments faster than this.

I can only do $2B, sorry.

It seems he is trying to get rid of his money as fast as possible. I suggest he send me $2 billion to start so I can offload it asap. I would be his most valuable liability.

Just be the “business person” and find a dev to do the “easy” work, like every other person I’ve heard from when they present an app idea to me.

This is what I was thinking too based on OP’s requirements.

I disagree that Starfield doesn’t let you explore like the other Bethesda games, it’s more like if you took the map of FO4, took 10% of each section and spread it across 10+ different planets. All of the content is still there…it’s just disconnected and feels barren because if you turn away from the pretty sections they made, there’s nothing around it. I don’t mind the storytelling, but the most of the quests are rough. If these quests were in any other game, the game would be considered generic and forgotten in a week. Also, the space combat is junk. I don’t know what good space combat looks like, but this isn’t it. It’s not rewarding, and I dread any time I encounter it.

I’m enjoying Starfield, but it isn’t perfect by any means. I have to ask though, is the bottom screenshot from an area that is meant to be normally seen by the player? Because if it isn’t, they should be toning down the graphics as part of optimizing performance. I guess it’s not really a valid point either though, because Starfield’s performance is terrible.
