My father put together a couple of collections of stuff from my grandfathers’ WWII service for the library and they put it on display for a while. If you have an idea yourself they’d probably love to let you run with it if you speak with them about it- that’d probably be the surest way to get started.

EDIT: also if you’re lucky enough to have a makerspace in your area that’s the candy store- they’ll know about lots of projects that need various expertise and talents.

  • Museums need a lot of interesting one-off exhibits and interactive stuff. There used to be a few small, local museums for local nature and history in my area that used volunteers to create really cool and informative stuff. Libraries might do some of that too or know about fairs and stuff where preservation groups and the like tend to show off stuff they’re preserving or whatever.

If there’s a community radio or public broadcast group they’ll need quality volunteers. A HAM license opens up a lot of volunteer opportunities especially preparing for and in emergency situations.

I use linux at home but manage windows and linux at work so I’m pretty much stuck with having to deal with MS bullshit for life.

As much as I’d love to work in a linux-only environment they don’t really exist in my area so I’d have to move or take a remote job that’s radically different from what I’m accustomed to. And despite the MS annoyances I like my position a lot so I’m satisfied with fussing about MS online.

That said pretty pissed about the last 3 months of patch tuesday fuckery. KB5037765 ruined my week.

    existence of extraterrestrial life

    Absolutely certain

and the potential involvement of governments in concealing or studying such entities.

    Completely absurd.

The Fermi Paradox is only a paradox if you apply a ludicrously unjustified value to the last figure in the Drake equation.

Technological civilizations are very likely self-extinguishing simply because technological power grows faster than any evolved species capacity to apply that technology to the benefit of the species.

Only way out of that would be that bio life is just a bootstrap for machine life and machine life just isn’t that interested in interacting with biological life so we’ll never see or hear from it.
