  • I grew up in a very small Ohio town. I moved to Houston, Texas and met one person from the same town and later one from a town over at a bar.

I quit Facebook/etc. not long after moving to Tokyo. I ran into a guy from Columbus, Ohio that I knew from when I lived there.

I’ve also run into friends of friends randomly in Tokyo.

Now, I love away from Tokyo in the countryside, so I’ll be super surprised if I meet anyone again, but who knows.

Edit: for context, on a business day, there are more than 30 million people plus tourists in the Tokyo metro

  • I resolved to stop paying full price for anything Pitchford and his touch based on a number of factors. I did buy the latest BL game when it was on a big sale and thoroughly hated the main story and various plotholes (seemingly from cuts made by the company/directors rather than the writers). I bought Tiny Tina (again, on sale for over half off) and it was a game with all kinds of bugs that just never got fixed – it’s the first game I didn’t immediately roll a new character to replay after beating it. At this point, I’m not sure I would buy anything else they put out.

  • I threw up in one once. I actually don’t recall anything any worse than what it usually was. I actually went further into the evangelical baptist rabbit hole as my family drifted a bit from it, but that would reverse and end with me being an atheist-leaning agnostic.

I do remember Sunday school teachers being angry that I was allowed to have D&D books and games. In a different church when I was in middle or high school, I quoted the movie name “Oh God you Devil” and my buddy whose family took me to church slapped me. That was a good time. /s

  • well, for one, sunscreen! Sunburnt heads suck. Hats as well.

It took some getting used to (I’ve gone through phases of shaving my head and having long hair. Recently, since I work outside in the heat, I hit it with the clippers every few days leaving just < 1mm. You’ll probably just get used to your new style which will help the confidence which helps everything else.

  • Honestly, it’d just go to stuff I need for the house. There’s a lot of canning stuff I want but I need to import it from the US (pressure canning isn’t a thing here in Japan and even water-bath canning is super rare so supplies are sparse and expensive). I’d also get a chainsaw and wood chipper. I would pay someone to do a full tune-up on my tractor and maybe get a mower attachment. Anything else, I’d basically put in the account that I use to pay my mortgage and for any home expenses.

I mostly write ‘indexes’ these days when I’m not on autopilot, in part since not all of my coworkers have a high English proficiency and just following the normal +(e)s plural makes it easier. My brain really does not want me to write ‘matrixes’ however (and indeed, my dictionary in this browser is fine with ‘indexes’ but not ‘matrixes’). I also try not to be pedantic with verbs whose irregular forms have become less common than their “incorrect” (at least when I was taught) forms. “Shined” being one of these, but I am sure there are more.
