  • Does linux support from manufacturer really matter?

The tuxe laptop convertible may seem nice and if she wants to draw on the screen then you are going to be limited on other options. But I would be worried about that intel gpu.

If you want to do 3d modeling you will need something that is gaming grade. I would rather game on a crappy card than model using one. But i also confess i am not up to date with the last few years of developments in that space.

In my very humble experience with digital art a proper dedicated drawing tablet beats any kind of touchscreen drawing.

So if you comfortable installing a chosen linux distro from a usb. (It really is not difficult, ai and YouTube can guide you trough it) and she is not already adept at touchscreen drawing i would suggest:

Lenovo Legion Both my partner and their mom have one with a different graphics card. Most of this line have nvidia rtx cards and all of those will do the job. Naturally more expensive models will have newer/faster cards.

Wacom intuos i am biased to call wacom tablets great because i have never used any others. I can say the intuos line is much nicer then the older bamboo pen and touch/fun line. Models come in different sizes

Romania has used the flag since 1866, which appeared for the first time in its current form in Wallachia. It was officially in use from 1866 until 1948, when it was superseded by the flag of the Socialist Republic of Romania.

Chad began to use its present flag in 1960, after it achieved independence from France. When Chad adopted its flag, Romania’s flag also included an emblem in the middle of the flag on top of the tricolour.

However, in 1989 Romania’s government was overthrown and the insignia was removed, reverting Romania’s flag to the prewar version which matched the one which had been adopted by Chad in the meantime.

  • The real world does not provide it as a realistic choice. You cannot do what i said. If one tried their family would just die with them.

Are you really arguing that your materialistic goods are worth more then the lives of future people? Because that is how your words appear. If so that is repulsive.

Parents have made much tougher sacrifices for their kids all over history, people leaving everything they have behind for a better future is a norm that continues to repeat conflict after conflict. Self-Sacrifice may be rare but to deny its existence is naively hateful.

If we don’t change our ways we wont even have a place to flee towards when climate conflicts arrive at home.

  • If i could guarantee my kids will have enough food and medical care for the rest of their lives unconditionally, only having to give up on my material belongings i will do so in a heartbeat.

If that means sleeping on straw and not owning any electronic devices but i get to keep living under the same roof with small garden i will still consider that a very cheap price to pay.

There is no point in all this luxury if we suicide our fucking species to create such.

You may be privileged right now, you may have it personally very good but your survival is just as dependent on society at large. If we don’t take action you too will be impacted sooner then you realize. And the more privilege you are used to the harder a time you will have.

  • First, did you read even the research papers?

Secondly, none are out that are actually immune to jailbreaking lol, Where did that claim come from?

Gpt4 is just an llm. Indeed the better version of gpt3

Gpt4o and 1o (claude-sonnet possibly also) rely on the generative capacities of the gpt4 model but there is allot more going under the hood that is not simply “generate the next token”

We all agree that a pure text predictor are not at all intelligent.

The discussion at hand is wether the current frontier of ai has moved the needle up. And i still would call it pretty dumb, but moving that needle, it did. Somewhere around (x2y0.5) if i have to use the meme. Stating its (0,0) just means people aren’t interested enough to pay attention, that these aren’t just llm anymore. That’s their right but i prefer people stopped joining the discussion so uninformed.

  • At that point the computers is promoted (or enslaved depending on pov) and called a (home) server.

One nuance. You don’t need to provide access from outside your home network if you don’t want to open the ports, i prefer that most of services remain local for security anyway. Once those ports are open, you or anyone else can connect to the services using your_external_ip_address:portnumber

You also dont need to run it 24/7, i started with a minecraft server that ran on planned times only, then a system that was online during afternoon-evening but not at night-morning.

It is also possible if not recommended, to use a vpn to tunnel in your network and than you can access everything just like if you where at home from anywhere.

If it all sounds intimidating, a laptop to try things out will do fine. Don’t expect a perfect polished system on first try, i have redesigned my network from scratch multiple times over the years. If you do want to get serious there are plenty of offices that have “old” desktop servers with pretty impressive hardware, the fans may make a lot of noise though.

The Hardware in my current home server is mostly parts that got upgraded in my main pc. I have reached a point where i am willing to sometimes spend extra money on what my partner sometimes dubs “my second pc” but it is also doing a lot for us at this point. Much cheaper then a store-bought NAS.

To be fair i do care quite a bit about that. Phones just make bad computers to me. Small screen and half is used by a keyboard.

They seem designed to frustrate me so “it just works (most times)” is the only way i can stomach owning one.

I have a dream where apple is forced to make ios fully open source and where screen/input devices can freely stream any system/OS from a dedicated server.

Iphones are so “cleverly” dumb it makes them usable.
