I’m using Google’s but I don’t really like it.
EDIT: is there anything that can sync with a linux podcast app (desktop)?
Antennapod, hands down. It’s the best podcast app I’ve ever used, period. Even proprietary options don’t come close.
And…! You can sync multiple devices across NextCloud! Tablet and phone? Synced!
You can even sync it with KDE kasts but not with Podcasts by GNOME :(
Does their gpodder sync thing work again yet? That’s the main reason I tried it out before, but it was inactive when I checked. NextCloud requires your own server, right?
It worked for me. If you have your own server to instsll Nextcloud, thays the best. There are free Nextcloud hosts with free accounts you can try.
I’d even say its one of my favourite pieces of open-source software overall, it’s very well made.
I actually did like pocketcasts better, but Antennapod isn’t bad.
Thank you for this recommendation!
I used to use AntennaPod a few years ago, not sure what it’s like now but it looks to still be updated. Nice app as it has built-in search, etc. rather than just taking RSS feeds.
Use it every day. It’s fantastic
I use AntennaPod currently, still works great
Another endorsement for AntennaPod, I also use it every single day. No issues with podcast length over here.
AntennaPod and Podverse are both really good.
+1 AntennaPod. Been using it for almost a decade :]
Absolutely. Just checked the stats in my app and I’m at nearly 5k hours.
Have you been transferring your statistics between devices?
No. I usually start over on a new device.
Fair enough. It can be a pretty neat way to track playback time and it’s also really easy to export your subscriptions along with it
Here’s the screen but you can also sort by podcast
+1 for Podverse, I switched about a year ago and it has been great.
Do either of these offer ad skipping?
Auto ad skipping?
AntennaPod has a 30 second jump button that works quite well
For AntennaPod, there are fast forward and rewind buttons. You can set a preprogrammed duration for each button. I have my fast forward button set to 30 seconds to skip commercials.
In addition, for AntennaPod, you can set a skip x seconds on podcast start, so if the podcast normally has 2 minutes of ads, jibber/jabber upfront, you can skip it. Also same for the backend of the podcast you can skip x seconds of the end of the podcast. This provides a way to skip ads, smalltalk, or jibber/jabber at the end of a podcast as well.
Given all that, which is great, be aware that AntennaPod doesn’t automatically skip ads on its own. You must press the preprogrammed duration fast forward button manually.
I haven’t used AntennaPod before but I really like Podverse.
AntennaPod is a good one. Personally I use podcastaddict solely because it has casting and I put podcasts on my TV.
I use AntennaPod as well. I cast from it all the time.
Is this a new feature? Last time I used it you had to use screen casting to do that.
I’ve been using it for about 1.5 - 2 years. It’s always been there for me.
I figured it out, the app from the app store not f-droid has the casting feature. Thanks for the help.
Podverse! I’m pretty sure it’s the only FLOSS app that has implemented all the podcasting 2.0 features. The only thing it’s missing is Android Auto :(
There is a bounty out to get andriod auto support. I use and love podverse
Audiobookshelf can handle podcasts as well
I use podcast addict.
I use AntennaPod but don’t love it. It can be quite buggy. Podcast length is never correct for example and will reach the end before the podcast has finished.
I just synced with gpoddersync, like two minutes ago!
Yes, you need a NextCloud server, but it’s getting easier to set up than ever before, and there are third party hosts available for cheap.
I use AntennaPod and it’s okay, I love the look but the UX takes some getting used to and I have no clue if it can sync with a desktop client, I guess with Syncthing there probably is a way for almost any app but I doubt that’s what you mean!
Antenna pod is great. Can’t sync with desktop tho.
I use podverse and love it. the other foss setup I have used is antennapod and kasts synced with the gpodder plugin for nextcloud, but kasts was kinda buggy so I switched to podverse
